Custom Acoustic Wall Art – Contemporary Wood Wall Sculptures

I recently completed a custom acoustic wall art project for a private client in Quebec. The work included two large-format (30″ × 40″) handcrafted wooden sound diffuser panels designed specifically for their audio listening space.

This project was about combining acoustic performance with custom wood art and furniture design. Besides that, the goal was not only to improve room acoustics, but also to create statement pieces that visually anchor the entire audio wall.

Each sound diffuser panel was designed and handmade, using carefully selected natural wood. The assemblage pattern is not only decorative — it is designed to diffuse sound reflections, helping to reduce echo, standing waves, and sound coloration. This makes the panels ideal for listening rooms, home theatres, studios, and modern living spaces where sound quality matters.

The client requested large-scale pieces, so both diffusers were custom-sized and proportioned specifically for the wall and audio system. Every detail was considered: dimensions, depth, wood tone, and overall visual balance.

From the beginning, this project was treated as an art piece, not only as acoustic equipment. The panels needed to stand on their own visually, even if you didn’t know they were designed to work with sound. The acoustic function was important, but it followed the composition, scale, and rhythm of the design.

Lockdown ART Project. Nature-inspired decor to promote indoor wellness.

The world paused, but creativity kept breathing.

This lockdown art project began as a personal response to a time of global uncertainty. With routines interrupted and noise replaced by silence, the studio became a sanctuary — a place to work through the stillness, anxiety, and longing for connection.

Each sculpture was created from reclaimed wood already in the studio, making the process entirely dependent on what was available. The limitations became part of the beauty. Shapes evolved more intuitively, textures more tactile, and the pace slowed — revealing a deeper layer of presence in the work.

Rather than chasing a concept, the process became about listening — to the material, to the mood, and to the moment. Each form in this series carries a quiet strength — shaped not only by tools and hands, but by time, solitude, and reflection.

This lockdown art project became more than a creative outlet; it was a form of grounding, healing, and reimagining.

Minimalism meets Mother Nature

These times are strange and unsettling. The whole world is on pause. A time for reflection and an opportunity to look inward. A time to take notice and appreciate the simple things in life. A time to be grateful for what we have …. and for those around us that help make our days a little bit better

Immersing myself in the making of something is incredibly calming. It’s something I’m really trying to do more regularly as the restlessness of self-isolation and social distancing kick in.

I do some ‘non-traditional art’, made from recycled wood that has been abandoned by industries.  There is a great pleasure in giving the wood a second life. In my belief, wood retains the spirit of the living tree and I just try to honour it. Much of my inspiration comes from the wood itself. Collecting wood simply for its natural beauty is the start of many of my works.  Old wood has scratches, cracks, knots and other imperfections that are similar to real life. Every piece of wood is like a person, with its unique character, challenges and strengths.

Feng Shui Design

In Feng Shui, every object in your environment influences energy. Wall art plays a powerful role — it’s not just decoration, but a visual affirmation of balance, inspiration, and flow.
Wood, in particular, represents growth, flexibility, and new beginnings — a perfect element to infuse into your living space through wall sculptures.

Feng Shui revolves around five elemental energies. Here’s how our art connects to each one:

  • 🌳 Wood – Present in our materials: raw edges, natural grain, and organic forms symbolize growth and creativity.

  • 🔥 Fire – Represented in sharp angles or warm tones, fire stimulates passion and transformation.

  • 🌍 Earth – Our textures ground and stabilize a space, perfect for achieving calm and security.

  • 🛠️ Metal – Clean lines or subtle metallic accents bring clarity, focus, and discipline.

  • 💧 Water – Flowing curves and deep hues offer emotional depth, calmness, and intuitive energy.

Second Life. Artistic repurposing of the dead tree.

Giving Trees a Second Life: A Philosophy in Wood

Nature never truly dies — it transforms.

At Woodblocks Design, we create art from dead trees, giving discarded trunks, branches, and fallen limbs a second chance at meaning. These pieces once stood tall, offering shade, life, and quiet presence in the world. Now, they speak again — not through leaves, but through texture, tone, and form.

The Process of Artistic Repurposing

Every reclaimed tree tells a story.

When we receive salvaged wood — from a storm-felled maple, an uprooted cedar, or a rotting oak — we listen. The shape of the grain, the knots, the imperfections all guide our hands. Instead of forcing the material, we collaborate with it.

The result is sculpture with soul: raw, refined, imperfect, and alive in a new way.

Repurposed dead tree transformed into sculpture by Woodblocks Design

Creating art from dead trees isn’t just a poetic act — it’s a sustainable one.

Repurposing wood minimizes waste, honors natural resources, and contributes to conscious design. In an era of overproduction and fast consumption, our work invites stillness and reverence.

Each piece is one-of-a-kind — not only because of the tree it came from, but because of the energy we put into reclaiming it.

Our sculptures live in homes, offices, meditation spaces, and galleries — wherever stillness and natural beauty are welcome.

Clients often commission pieces that hold personal meaning: a tree from their childhood home, a branch from a favorite trail, a log saved from a fire. These works are not just art — they are memory made physical.
